Singin’ in My Soul is the new album by the trio The Sacred Roots: De Bernardi, Ferrarese, Sbergia, a project dedicated to the roots of African American sacred music: early gospel, spirituals, sacred blues, and the authentic history of vocal expression and the soul of the blues.
Recorded live in the studio at Bloos Studios in Velletri, this work recreates the acoustic, intimate, and deeply human atmosphere typical of the earliest recordings from the 1920s and 1930s, preserving breath, natural dynamics, imperfections, soul, and truth.
Max De Bernardi, Mauro Ferrarese, and Veronica Sbergia—among the leading figures of American roots music in Italy—began collaborating in 2007. The idea of a gospel album was born back then, inspired by a shared passion for the spiritual and sacred repertoire of the early tradition. Their paths diverged for many years, and the project was set aside until 2024, when they reconnected artistically and finally decided to bring that original vision to life. This album represents, both symbolically and artistically, the closing of a circle.
